2012-04-12 Training With Gareth

On Thursday, April 12, 2012, we held a live training session with Gareth Owen, our resident expert on the listings setup and SEO side of your local listings business.

There was a problem with the initial recording, so Gareth re-recorded it to make it available to members.

Here is a summary of what is included in this training:

Member Questions answered in this session…

  • When I do a search on Google, there are no local listings. Is there a setting I need to define to display these instead of standard organic results?
  • Where do you define the keywords you want to rank for? Categories?
  • Is there a limit to the number of keywords you can define?
  • What priority does Google put on the listings? For example: Are photos the most important element of the ranking process? Or is it videos? Or citations? Or all of the above.
  • The new Google Places listing results seem to show a different number of results depending on what you search for. So how does Google define this and what is the maximum no that will be displayed? I know it used to be 7 but in quite a few cases, I’ve seen more than that on the new system
  • Obviously this program is dedicated to local marketing However in a lot of cases, businesses will not only trade locally, they’ll also work nationally and in some cases, internationally as well Do the same principles apply for these businesses or are they exempt from this type of marketing?

Primary Training for This Session

Gareth discusses the plethora of “Local Deals” sites like groupon, and how they can impact your offerings to your clients

  • How does it work?
  • Does it benefit the local business?
  • Is it really a good deal for the customer?
  • Where the opportunity lies for you, and how you can profit from this idea
  • How to market your services
